Danny
Griego was born and raised in Greeley, Colorado, a plains town in the northern
part of the state. He received a BA in Theatrical Scene Design and a minor in
Art from the University of Northern Colorado in 1991.
After graduation, Danny
purchased a one-way ticket to Europe wherein he traveled extensively.
Experiencing an “off the beaten path” lifestyle and working as he traveled, he
spent most of this time in Ireland and Spain. In the summer of 1992, while in
Barcelona, Spain he was a charge/lead scenic artist creating and developing
formal backdrops and sculptures for the internationally received Summer Olympic
games. He also visited numerous art museums in many different countries. After
nearly a year and a half in Europe, Danny returned to Colorado to continue his
theater career.
Before and after returning from
Europe Danny also worked at several professional theaters. He eventually made
his way to San Diego, California to the renowned Old Globe Theater. Danny
persevered as a scenic artist and shortly thereafter the charge/lead scenic
artist. He remained employed with the Old Globe for 10 years. In 2003 Danny
“retired” from professional theater to pursue a fine art career, a decision he
has pondered for many years. Shortly after his arrival to San Diego, Danny
discovered Watts Atelier of the Arts in Encinitas, California. He has been a
returning student at the atelier since 1995. Thanks to the guidance of owner
Jeff Watts, instructor Ron Lemen and many other outstanding teachers the
atelier offers, it was in this learning environment Danny continued his love
for art.
Danny currently freelances as a
muralist and decorative painter to supplement his desire to become a fine
artist.
